Welcome to the The Diocesan Ecumenical and Interfaith Commission (DEIC)

Our mission: To respond to the ecumenical imperative of our Lord Jesus Christ that we all may be one and also nurture interfaith relationships.

We accomplish our mission by:
  • serving as a communications link between all church levels
  • providing information and education
  • promoting and implementing our LARC Covenant
  • nurturing interfaith dialogues
  • encouraging ecumenism to be a priority in the mission and ministry of our Diocese

Our Commission is composed of one representative from each of the fifteen Regions of our Diocese, five at-large members and one representative from the Metropolitan and Virginia Synods of the ELCA with voice and vote. Members are nominated to the Bishop who appoints them. A curriculum entitled "One Household-Many Hearts" for teaching ecumenism in a block in the parish for children and adults has been designed and published by the commission and is available from mkerr@thediocese.net.
